Protect Yourself
Scammers look for weak spots, places where your accounts, devices, or personal information may be exposed. A few smart safeguards can help close the gaps and reduce your risk of fraud.

Safeguard Your Accounts
Use a Strong, Unique Password
- Create a long, unique password for your River Bank & Trust online banking. Avoid using personal information, like birthdates and anniversaries, and reusing passwords from other websites or apps. Consider using a reputable password manager to securely store your passwords.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a verification code in addition to your password. River Bank & Trust requires multi-factor authentication for online and mobile banking to help protect your accounts.
Turn on Account Alerts
- Email and text alerts can notify you of important account activity, so you recognize suspicious transactions quickly. Set up alerts within online and mobile banking using the Manage Alerts option in the menu.
Enroll in eStatements
-
eStatements are complementary and provide secure, convenient access to your account statements while reducing the risk of sensitive financial information being lost or stolen in the mail.
Manage Your Debit Card
-
Take control of your debit card through Manage Cards in online banking and our mobile app. *Temporarily lock and unlock your card if it’s misplaced and set up near real-time email or text alerts whenever your card is used. If your card has been lost or stolen, call the bank during normal business hours or call 844-202-5333 after hours.
*Turning your card off affects future debit card point-of-sale and ATM transactions. Previously authorized and recurring transactions, checks, transfers, bill payments and other account activity will not be affected.
Protect Your Devices
Keep Your Software Up to Date
- Install updates for your phone, tablet and computer as soon as they’re available. Software updates often include important security improvements.
Lock Your Devices
- Protect your devices with a passcode, fingerprint or facial recognition to help keep your information secure if a device is lost or stolen.
Download Apps You Trust
- Only install apps from official app stores and avoid downloading software from unfamiliar websites.
Use Secure Internet Connections
- Avoid accessing financial accounts over public Wi-Fi. Use a trusted VPN whenever possible.
Protect Your Personal Information
Monitor Your Credit
-
Regularly reviewing your credit report can help you spot signs of identity theft.
-
Customers with MyRiver Checking, Military Checking and Wealth Management Checking have access to complimentary credit monitoring as part of their account benefits. Registration is required.
Think Before You Share
Never share sensitive information unless you’re certain who you’re communicating with. This includes:
- Online banking usernames and passwords
- One-time verification codes
- Debit card numbers and PINs
- Account numbers
- Social Security numbers
Verify Unexpected Requests
If you receive an unexpected request for personal or financial information:
- Don’t click unfamiliar links or open unexpected attachments.
- Don’t use the phone number provided in the message.
- Contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number.
- Remember, River Bank & Trust will never contact you to ask for account numbers, debit card numbers, online banking login information, PIN, or verification codes.
Be Mindful of What You Share Online
- Information shared on social media—such as birthdays, family names, schools or pets—can give scammers details they can use to impersonate you or try to gain access to your accounts.
